Students from EB1 Espadanal and EB/JI Ribeiros celebrated Pancake Day, learning interesting facts about this festivity, which is a traditional feast day before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday. Anglo-Saxon Christians went to confession and were “shriven” (absolved from their sins). According to tradition, in 1445 a woman of Olney heard the shriving bell while she was making pancakes and ran to the church in her apron, still clutching her frying pan. That’s why we also organised a Pancake Race in our schools! This time, we even cooked pancakes in a frying pan in the classroom, and ate delicious pancakes with honey and tasty toppings! The students had lots of fun together!
